COMMUNITY STANDARD

Heathens and Heartbreakers Book Bash is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants, including all attendees, attending, volunteers and staff.

All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner at all times. Behavior disrupting, endangering, demeaning, or creating a hostile environment will not be tolerated under any circumstance.

This Code of Conduct applies to all event activities, whether in person, virtual, or online, and includes all communications and interactions connected to the event.

RESPECT

The following conduct is prohibited:

  • Harassment or bullying in any form, including verbal, physical, written, electronic, or digital behavior

  • Discriminatory or hateful speech or conduct based on religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, sex, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, disability visible or invisible, age, pregnancy, marital status, veteran status, body size or appearance, immigration or citizenship status, genetic information, or any other legally protected characteristic

  • Insults, derogatory remarks, or negative commentary about a participant’s appearance, identity, or personal attributes

  • Intimidation, threats, stalking, following, or behavior reasonably perceived as menacing

This event maintains zero tolerance for sexual harassment or sexually aggressive behavior of any kind.

PERSONAL BOUNDARIES & CONSENT

Consent is mandatory, affirmative, and non negotiable.

  • No participant may hug, touch, grope, kiss, or otherwise physically engage with another participant without express voluntary consent

  • Consent must be obtained every time. Prior consent does not imply future consent

  • Invading personal space without permission is prohibited

  • Coercion, pressure, or attempts to override refusal violate this policy

  • Authors and vendors may establish access rules at their tables, which must be respected at all times

Failure to respect boundaries will result in immediate enforcement action.

PRIVACY & MEDIA MISUSE

Photographing, filming, or recording identifiable individuals without their explicit consent is prohibited

  • Flash photography, videography, audio recording, and live streaming within another person’s personal space are not permitted without permission

  • Under Texas law, explicit consent is required to record or film individuals

  • The use of tracking devices, surveillance tools, or technology intended to monitor another participant is prohibited

  • Attempts to interfere with another participant’s privacy or personal security are not allowed

EVENT ETIQUETTE

  • Pushing, shoving, verbal harassment, or aggressive behavior is not permitted

  • Fighting, swearing at other participants, volunteers, staff, or team members is prohibited

  • Obstruction of aisles, booths, entrances, or walkways is not allowed

  • Destruction of property or disorderly conduct will result in removal

SHARED SPACE ETIQUETTE

This is an adults only event, BUT it is hosted in a shared venue.

  • Public lewdness, explicit sexual behavior, illegal drugs, and weapons are prohibited

  • Alcohol consumption is permitted only where authorized

  • Intoxication that results in unsafe or disruptive behavior will result in removal

  • Participants who anticipate difficulty with self management may request assistance from event staff

ACCESSIBILITY & ACCOMMODATIONS

Heathens and Heartbreakers Book Bash is committed to accessibility and inclusion for participants with disabilities.

To support reasonable accommodations and ADA related needs, ADA attendee ticket holders may submit a request form outlining their needs or concerns. Requests should be submitted no later than three weeks prior to the event.

We will make every reasonable effort to accommodate requests. If a request cannot be fulfilled, the attendee will be notified using the email provided on the form.

This statement reflects our commitment to inclusivity and does not limit or waive any rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act or applicable state laws.

SERVICE ANIMALS

Service animals are welcome where permitted by law.

  • Service animals may not be distracted while working

  • Asking to pet or interact with a working service animal is not allowed

ENFORCEMENT & CONSEQUENCES

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in one or more of the following actions:

  • Immediate removal from the event without refund

  • Revocation of credentials, admission, or participation privileges

  • Permanent exclusion from future Heathens and Heartbreakers Book Bash or Veiled Vellum and Co events

  • Notification of venue security or law enforcement

  • Documentation and preservation of evidence for potential civil or criminal proceedings

Enforcement actions may be applied individually or cumulatively at the discretion of the event team leadership.

SAFETY & SUPPORT

Security personnel and trained staff will be present during official event hours.

Participants who experience, witness, or become aware of prohibited conduct should immediately notify event staff, venue security, or designated safety officers.

Reports will be documented and addressed promptly and seriously.

PARTICIPANT ACKNOWLEDGMENT

By purchasing a ticket or participating in Heathens and Heartbreakers Book Bash, each participant affirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to comply with this Code of Conduct.

Failure to adhere to these standards constitutes grounds for removal and denial of entry to future events.

SCOPE OF EVENT CONDUCT

The Code Of Conduct rules apply to all attending and attendees in all spaces connected to Heathens and Heartbreakers. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Official event spaces

  • After hours events hosted as part of Heathens & Heartbreakers

  • Online spaces, social media, and communications connected to the event
